Welcome to the Wednesday Walk Around the Web, where we weave & wind through weblinks weekly. Hopefully you will find the links on offer amusing, interesting, or, occasionally, profound. Views expressed in the Wednesday Walk do not necessarily reflect those of anyone but the writer.
- Paragliding is a dangerous and harrowing hobby…and that’s before you think about the kangaroos that are waiting to accost you when you land.
- Captain Marvel had a nice assortment of songs (and not a bad score to boot), but of course there’s room for alternative selections. (Spoilers!)
- This Week in Necessary Merchandise: Gritty, your comrade and mine, is now ready to appear in his nakesness on your phone, your clothing, and wherever else you care to have him.
- This Week in Cloud Storage: MySpace recently lost all music uploaded between 2003 and 2015, and while you may not personally have had a vast amount of music hanging around there (just like you may not have personally cared much about Yahoo deciding your old GeoCities site wasn’t worth hanging on to), some people did, and it’s a reminder to us all to never trust a cloud backup. By the way…does MySpace have the same rampant Nazi problem as every other social media platform? I might understand dumping people’s cloud archives if they’re Nazis, as a crude method of deplatforming.
- If there’s any franchise that must be mined for its film potential, it’s Monster Factory.
- I don’t have the patience or discipline for even the simplest nail art, but I can still admire the masters.
- The noble pyro-trombone is just what it sounds like: the majestic combination of trombone and flamethrower.
- Too many of these depression testimonials hit close to home.
- Drivers who wait until their lane is about to cease to exist to merge into the next one may seem like jerkfaces, but that’s what we’re supposed to be doing.
- Is it still safe and fun to laugh at flat-Earthers? They haven’t managed to get members of their community elected to high office yet, right? Maybe it’s not so funny regardless.
- If you’re a major content producer these days, it’s a bad look not to have accessibility options like audio description tracks for the visually disabled. It’s a really bad look to respond to a request for one with an advertisement for a streaming platform where you don’t offer that many accessibility options.
- (Warning: child abuse & murder) Are the Christians okay? No, they are not.
- This Week in Comics History: The rise and fall of the newspaper superhero strip.
