Welcome to the Marvel Age! Each month PTBN Comics’ very own Sarcastic Four (Nick Duke, Tim Capel, Russell Sellers and Todd Weber) take an in-depth year-by-year look at Marvel Comics’ publishing history, focusing on 10 significant issues from that year. The team looks at important character debuts, discusses significant comic creators, and places social and historical context of the era onto the books-all culminating in a holistic view at the Marvel Age of Comics.
This second episode takes a concentrated look at Marvel‘s output throughout the calendar year 1963. The Sarcastic Four talk about Marvel Comics’ expansion and its shared universe in the first adventures of the Avengers and the X-Men, the boys once again discuss the contributions of creators Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko (and even newcomer Don Heck), the S4 take an extended tour of Amazing Spider-Man 1-3 as well as the first Fantastic Four Annual, and our team chronologically looks at the first comic book appearances of Iron Man, Dr. Strange, Nick Fury and the Wasp.
