Josh Matthews welcomes us to the wheelhouse of old school NWA (Greensboro of course) for this week’s Main Event. He’s alone because his broadcast partner is heading to the ring.

MATCH: The Miz vs. Cody Rhodes
Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett joins Josh at the broadcast table. The match is standard fare but Barrett’s commentary is carrying this. His comments are loaded with logic and he’s chewing Josh up with every piece of analysis. Cody looks good, and Barrett was cheering him on to injure Miz in advance of the triple threat IC Title match at Payback. Rhodes threw Miz’s wrist into the steel post and now is working on the wrist. Have I mentioned Josh is terrible? Barrett says Cody knows his stuff because he’s Goldust’s brother. Not mentioned enough I say. Miz makes the comeback and was going for the SCF when Cody reverses and throws Miz into the steel post again. Miz makes the inevitable comeback and Cody taps out. Big shock. I don’t think a heel has won the big match on Main Event in months.

After the match Barrett gets up and hold the IC Title in the air.

Back from break and we get an awesome CM Punk vignette pumping up his match with Chris Jericho Sunday.

MATCH: Damien Sandow vs. Sin Cara
Sandow has the mike. SILENCE! He sees the crowd and gets “physically ill”. He runs down Sheamus and says “Greensboro is the perfect example of the unwashed masses.” I like how Barrett, who’s still at the table, says Sin Cara’s silly lighting is stopping him from reading his notes. Back from break and we get an accidental camera shot of Josh not looking at the camera but at a monitor. Probably has his lines delivered in his ear too. Sandow sells a lot of Sin Cara’s offense but then takes over. Sandow eventually gets the win with his finisher. He’s going to lose Sunday and that’s a damn shame.

We go back to Monday night and the final Cena/Ryback confrontation before Payback.

MATCH: Tons of Funk vs. The Usos
Wow, interesting match-up here of two babyface teams. The Usos have been on a roll lately, winning matches on all three brands. Maybe not Smackdown yet. Definitely here and on Raw. Brodus acts a little heelish here, making fun of the Usos’ dancing. Wade Barrett is awesome, he’s ripping Josh to bits. Then again, that’s not too hard. Brodus misses a splash, then Jey hits the top rope splash for the victory. They’re becoming the foundation for the tag division and they keep on winning. With that we’re out.

SCOTT’S TAKE: Nice job fitting three matches in, but not enough Payback build other than the Cena/Ryback match, of course.
