Brownies are a great dessert to start with, if you aren’t very familiar with making desserts from scratch. They key to brownies is how you mix them. So, lets get started.
First melt 1 and 1/2 sticks of butter in a sauce pan and stir in 4 tablespoons of cocoa powder. I do not use cocoa powder, but I use several different types of chocolate. Mine looks like the picture below, but the principle is the same.
In a separate, large mixing bowl combine 2 and 1/2 cups of sugar and 3 eggs. Wisk together until very well blended. Once your chocolate/ butter mixture has slightly cooled, pour it into the sugar/egg mixture.
Add 2 tablespoons of vanilla extract and mix very well.
In a separate bowl, wisk together 2 cups of all purpose flour and 1/2 of a teaspoon of baking powder. Pour into the large mixing bowl and fold in gently with a spoonula (or other mixing utensil, just not the wisk.). Stir only until flour is incorporated. The more you mix this the tougher your brownies will be. Pour into a 9″X13″ pan and bake at 325 degrees for about 30 minutes.
This will make a thick cakey brownie. I have altered the recipe a lot to get a thin fudgey brownie, but to get that, you’d have to order them from Kakes by Kati. I guard my brownie recipe with my life.
This is what mine look like in the end.
1-1/2 sticks butter
4 Tbs. cocoa
2-1/4 c. Sugar
3 eggs
2 c. Flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
2 Tbs. vanilla.
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Melt butter in a boiler and stir in cocoa. Set aside to cool. In a large mixing bowl, wisk together sugar and eggs. Pour in cooled butter/chocolate mixture and vanilla. Stir well. Gently fold in flour and baking powder. Pour into a 9X13 pan and bake until done. About 30 minutes.
If this is too plain for you, or not festive enough, my final recipe will surely suit your fancy.
