5. WWE Champion JOHN CENA vs. JOHN BRADSHAW LAYFIELD in an I Quit match (Judgment Day 2005)

Though their WrestleMania 21 encounter underwhelmed, Cena came off as a major star here, thanks in no small part to JBL.

4. WWF Champion STEVE AUSTIN vs. THE ROCK in a No Holds Barred match (Backlash 1999)

The two biggest stars of the Attitude Era stepped up following a middling WrestleMania match in a memorable fight featuring the McMahons supplementing the package.

3. World Champion CHRIS BENOIT vs. TRIPLE H vs. SHAWN MICHAELS in a Triple Threat match (Backlash 2004)

Following in the footsteps of their initial encounter at WrestleMania XX, three exceptional in-ring performers found ways to put on a different show with the added emphasis from Benoit being in his hometown.

2. World Champion THE UNDERTAKER vs. BATISTA in a Last Man Standing match (Backlash 2007)

At WrestleMania 23, they shocked an underestimating fan base with an exciting power match; a month later, they brought the same intensity and found a way to make a sometimes perplexing stipulation work to their advantage.

1. World Champion SHEAMUS vs. DANIEL BRYAN in a 2/3 Falls match (Extreme Rules 2012)

After only getting 18 seconds to show their stuff the month before, Sheamus and Daniel Bryan made up for their lost time by putting on our all-time favorite WrestleMania rematch. With brawling, technical wrestling, psychology and energy, this one had it all and began Bryan’s true ascent to the top of WWE.
