Teppan Edo – Epcot World Showcase (Japan)
Japanese steak houses aren’t incredibly abundant in rural Alabama. We have one nice local place that is typically reserved for special occasions, due to its high prices. When my husband and my first choice of restaurants were booked, we decided to give this place a try. I love Asian cuisine, but it’s a little outside of my husband’s comfort zone. I was expecting an amazing meal for myself, and for my husband to push food around on his plate. Instead, this is what happened…
The first thing we got were our sauces. We were given three different ones. The light brown sauce on top was a ginger sauce used for vegetables. The middle sauce (dark brown) was for our seafood and the bottom (white) sauce was for steak.

This is the only time my husband and I got the same thing. It was a mix of steakĀ and large shrimp. For this duration of the meal, the chef really put on a show. Our chef was a bit older than the chefs at other tables around us, so his show wasn’t as fancy. It was still very entertaining. This steak was amazing and the shrimp were very large! They plated everything separately. You got your noodles, then your main dish. So you had to eat everything one at a time or risk things getting cold. I eat everything one at a time anyway so this did not bother me, but for others this may be a problem. My husband and I both really enjoyed this meal. Then, it was dessert time!

My husband ordered a chocolate ginger cake. It was a ginger cake with chocolate icing. He said it tasted like cake with chocolate icing. I tried it, and it did have a hint of ginger. The cake was good, but I would have preferred more ginger. It wasn’t as good as what I ordered, though.
I took a picture of this cheesecake with my fork so you would get an idea of the size. This was a very small slice of dessert. It was a green tea cheesecake, drizzled with a raspberry sauce. I don’t like green tea or raspberries, but in keeping with the adventurous theme, I ordered it. The cheesecake tasted like cheesecake with a hint of green tea. The green tea nicely complemented the cheesecake, instead of overpowering it. The same applied for the raspberry sauce. The three flavors blended very nicely to create a dessert that I ended up loving. My only complaint was that it was too small!
My husband and I are not big drinkers. We shared a cocktail at dinner and I told my husband before we got to Disney that I wanted to get one alcoholic beverage while there. I have always loved the Japanese culture, and I really wanted to try sake. We had the chance at Teppan Edo, so we took it. We asked the waitress what she recommended. I’ve always heard that sake is very strong. She told us that the “premium” sake was not as strong. She said “It’s for ladies.” We decided that was probably the best choice for us, so we ordered a glass of the premium sparkling sake. We are not connoisseurs by any standards, but it was by far the best adult beverage we have ever had. It was sweet, but not too sweet. It was also very smooth. I definitely recommend ordering one of the sakes if you ever visit Tappan Edo. We considered buying a bottle of it!
