PTBN Greatest Song of the 90s Tournament Rebook – Round One, Part One

Roger Morrissette
For Group K I think the top five is good except for stupid Weird Al. I’ll throw I Got 5 On It in instead.

JT Rozzero
Weird Al deserves to move on…. but not for this song. I Got 5 is a must for me.

Andrew Flanagan
Smells Like Nirvana was really big … but I’m not going to argue with you.

JT Rozzero
It was really big for him. I think he has better though. And he isn’t stupid. I would bump lame ass Bon Jovi first though. I would also have Hold ON move ON.

En-Vogue

Roger Morrissette
That was another huge hit!

Jason Greenhouse
Hold On over Bon Jovi’s 43rd best song.

JT Rozzero
I am probably the worst to make this decision but the more En Vogue that advances, the better we all will be.

Roger Morrissette
C’mon guys… The video with the kid from Dead At 21. Bump Rammstein before you bump Bon Jovi.

Andrew Flanagan
What would middle school dances be without Bon Jovi? But again, I won’t argue with En Vogue bumping them.

JT Rozzero
I am fine with Rammstein going for En Vogue and Al going for Luniz.

Roger Morrissette
I’m with JR.

Jason Greenhouse
I can live with that.

Andrew Flanagan
Oof … I was so happy to see Rammstein make it. But I’ll go with the group on this one.

Roger Morrissette
Thanks guys. Always is Bon Jovi’s #1 selling single of all time. Counts for something.

JT Rozzero
Wait, wait, wait.

JT Rozzero
Does Do Me have to stay?

Roger Morrissette
Yes…Smack it up flip it rub it down!

JT Rozzero
OK then.

OUR PICKS: Hold On, I Got Five On It, Always, Do Me, Tears in Heaven

Jason Greenhouse
Group L…Everlast won’t last past this round. Dump them for 311. Rog, this Group has my all time favorite PJ song.

Roger Morrissette
Black is awesome. I’m a Yellow Ledbetter or Porch guy myself but this is Top 5. Stacked group. I would bounce Testify before I bounced Everlast. The whole House of Pain to alternative rocker thing was a pretty big deal. I agree 311 should be in there.

JT Rozzero
Bye bye U2! At least it should be that way. I think 311 should definitely move on for sure. Give It Up is one of my favorite rap songs of the 90s, but I can’t justify it moving on. But! Can we talk about K7 for just a moment? Any chance…?

Roger Morrissette
The only song I would bounce is Testify… Certainly not Rage’s best work. You could talk me into K7 over 311 for that spot. It’s a good tune.

Jason Greenhouse
I’ll take one for the team here. I’m a huge Rage fan, but I’m in favor of K7 over Rage here.

Roger Morrissette
Do you make it three K7 votes JR?

JT Rozzero
Yeah, I feel bad for 311 because that is a good song, by Come Baby Come was like my first favorite rap song when I started watching MTV and really getting into music. Andy, what say you?

Roger Morrissette
Rock voice: “It doesn’t matter what you say!” We have a majority

JT Rozzero
I want to see if he has a pro-311 argument that could sway. Or if he hates U2 like I do and says they should go!

Roger Morrissette
One can’t get bounced in the first round. That’s absurd. It’s the same as the rest of PTBN hating R&B and not voting for it… These are the results our team is out to correct!

JT Rozzero
One shitty song.
One non vote.
One song going home early.
U2 can’t stop it!

Roger Morrissette
You’ve become what you set out to destroy…

JT Rozzero
Andy, the floor is yours.

Andrew Flanagan
I think K7 over Rage is fair. Testify isn’t their most memorable song. I’d also be for 311 over ever Everlast, but it sounds like that got shot down.

JT Rozzero

Swing batta swing!

JT Rozzero
OUR PICKS: Black, Come Baby Come, One, What It’s Like, It Was a Good Day

JT Rozzero
Group M! Real tough. I can’t find fault with the top five but I think Pony and Rush, Rush need to be talked about. Anything off the bat we should bump?

Andrew Flanagan
I’d think about Butthole Surfers too … But I can’t make a case for bumping anything. Intergalactic isn’t my favorite Beastie Boys song, but it was really big.

Jason Greenhouse
Intergalactic is the weak link of the Beastie songs in the tourney. Overall it was a huge hit, but I would be in favor of bumping it for Pony

Roger Morrissette
I agree wholeheartedly. I think Intergalactic is a piece of shit. I also think you can make a strong case for Rush, Rush over Color Me Badd. Same genre and only one can move on in my opinion. Andy, I love Pepper but this group is too loaded.

JT Rozzero
I could maybe swayed. I love CMB, but they have better songs with a better chance still to come.

Roger Morrissette
My frame of reference… Rush, Rush was the first song I had a real slow dance to. I Wanna Sex You Up was on while Nino was banging G-Money’s girl in New Jack City. It’s really a toss up. I’m voting for my slow dance over Nino’s backstabbing. Rush, Rush it is!

Jason Greenhouse
CMB was on one of the best episodes of 90210. Name another bad in this tournament that played the Peach Pit?

5d26afb0326e407e2f497819d96321a1

JT Rozzero
Cardigans.

Jason Greenhouse
Was that the actual Peach Pit or Peach Pit After Dark?

JT Rozzero
PPAD, good call.

Roger Morrissette
CMB was also the name of Nino’s crew in New Jack. Cash Money Bruthas. Coincidence? I think not.

JT Rozzero
Ok so I’m confused… Color Me Badd now??

Roger Morrissette
I still vote Rush, Rush. Sounds like Greeny may disagree.

Jason Greenhouse
Rush, Rush in place of what?

Roger Morrissette
Color Me Badd.

JT Rozzero
And how about Pony for Intergalactic? I am all on board there.

Roger Morrissette
I’m all for Pony over Intergalactic.

Jason Greenhouse
I’m for that! Andy – Paula or CMB?

Andrew Flanagan
I’m also pro-Pony. I would lean toward Paula.

Roger Morrissette
Sounds like we have a consensus boys!

JT Rozzero
OUR PICKS: Come As You Are, Pony, Rush Rush, Ghetto Superstar, Shoop

JT Rozzero
Group N – I would think Notorious or All My Life should be in over Korn…Not huge on that REM song either, but I am far from an authority with them.

Roger Morrissette
The REM song is a good one but I’m ok bouncing it. I would actually do All My Life and Jesus Jones. I’m fine bouncing Korn. Not their best work. All My Life getting screwed because of the refusal to vote for R&B…. Big hit. All My Life was #1 for 3 weeks.

Jason Greenhouse
I’m good with the top three. K-Ci & JoJo and DMB have my votes. Crash Into Me is my favorite DMB song.

Roger Morrissette
I am good with DMB.

Andrew Flanagan
I don’t want to live in a world where Korn gets twice as many votes as Tool. I like All My Life bumping Freak on a Leash. You could make a case for any of the others over REM … do we have a consensus on DMB?

JT Rozzero
Eh, I guess.

Andrew Flanagan
Jesus Jones? I could easily be talked into something else.

JT Rozzero
I just hate DMB so don’t let me sway the vote there.

Roger Morrissette
I think DMB is the right call here.

Andrew Flanagan
Works for me.

JT Rozzero
So do we have our five? Or we still debating?

Roger Morrissette
We have five…Top 3 + KC/Jo Jo and DMB

JT Rozzero
OUR PICKS: Nuthin But a G Thang, Come Out and Play, Right Now, All My Life, Crash Into Me

JT Rozzero
Onto Group O! I will definitely push for the Boss Tones and Next for sure. but the only I can argue that I would bump is Zombie.

Jason Greenhouse
I’m a Zombie guy, but I’m good with bumping them here. Just hope that their other hit can get some love later on. Next, I’m on board with. Any Local H supporters here besides me?

JT Rozzero
I like that song a lot but not more than the two I mentioned.

Jason Greenhouse
I would be ok with Next over Zombie and then leaving the other four. Easily Hammer and Live’s biggest hits. Could this be Lenny’s biggest hit? And Quad City is such an iconic one hit wonder.

Andrew Flanagan
I didn’t vote for Lenny Kravitz, but that just may be me … I like Local H, but I’d probably keep White Zombie before putting them in.

Roger Morrissette
I think Next should be in as well. I would bounce Fly Away before Zombie.

JT Rozzero
Next is a must. We sure we want to bump Lenny?

Roger Morrissette
I’d rather have two Zombie songs move on (assuming Thunder Kiss’n 65 does) than two Lenny songs (Are You Gonna Go My Way a shoe in right?) Maybe just me.

JT Rozzero
Yeah true. Just feels like Fly Away was his biggest hit, that is all. But I don’t care enough to waste bullets on it, I know that. Next needs to be in, that is all I know.

Andrew Flanagan
I’m all for bumping Fly Away, unless Greeny wants to make a case for it.

Jason Greenhouse
I’m all in for keeping Zombie over Lenny. My only case was that it was Lenny’s biggest hit.

Roger Morrissette
More Human Than Human was big too… It’s not like we’re bumping it for garbage. Sometimes you’re just in the wrong group. Lenny turned in his rocker card when he starred in The Hunger Games. Rob did Devil’s Rejects… Done and done.
