JT Rozzero
Group F only has one song that didn’t advance that I feel strongly about and that is First of the Month by Bone Thugs…Mariah shows up twice here and I agree with Fantasy advancing over Emotions.
Andrew Flanagan
I’m surprised Disney did so much better here … the power of Elton I guess?
JT Rozzero
He felt the love tonight. All of it.
Andrew Flanagan
I hate seeing Bone Thugs not make it, but I don’t know what I would bump.
Jason Greenhouse
I agree with your Mariah statement, JR. Same with RHCP, we get them twice here. Under the Bridge is their Stairway to Heaven. I voted Bone Thugs over Salt-N-Pepa here. These ladies have two huge hits down the road that won’t have any argument with advancing.
JT Rozzero
But I think you can argue this is SnP’s most notable song even though I like the other two better. Or am I off there?
Jason Greenhouse
Would you keep SnP and dump Sir Elton for Bone Thugs?
Roger Morrissette
I feel pretty strongly the right five made it here. I love Bone Thugs too but this is a powerhouse bracket. Two hip hop songs in the Top 5 and a strong contender in Under the Bridge to win the whole contest. I don’t think you can bump the Lion King song for Bone’s 2nd biggest hit of the decade. That song is iconic even today.
JT Rozzero
All fair points. Bone Thugs stays on the outside here thanks to a stacked pool.
OUR PICKS: Under the Bridge, Insane in the Brain, Let’s Talk About Sex, Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Fantasy
JT Rozzero
Group G is very similar to Group F in that there are a couple songs I feel should be in, but the Top Five are super strong. Walkin’ on the Sun was Smash Mouth’s breakout song and same for No, No, No with Destiny’s Child.
CREAM deserves a better fate.
Andrew Flanagan
I would have thought Wu and Destiny’s Child would be shoo-ins, but this a tough draw. Can we make the Zero argument on Better Man? Is that a top five Pearl Jam song?
Roger Morrissette
I would bump Creep for CREAM and think it’s unfortunate to be a Destiny’s Child or Smashmouth fan.
JT Rozzero
They do have… Better songs… for sure.
Jason Greenhouse
This is the Goo’s 3rd or 4th best song IMO. Wu-Tang has my vote over them.
JT Rozzero
I would drop Name and Better Man for CREAM and Smash Mouth
Jason Greenhouse
I’m down with that!
Andrew Flanagan
I’m on board too
Roger Morrissette
I agree with you in principle Andy but Better Man was a way, way bigger hit than Zero. You can make the more credible argument later when I fight to the death over Yellow Ledbetter.
JT Rozzero
So are you standing tall on Better Man over Smash Mouth, Cowboy?
Roger Morrissette
You guys are really going to bump Better Man for Smash Mouth… That is just awful.
Roger Morrissette
It’s not even All Star…
JT Rozzero
I think Walkin’ On The Sun was bigger for them. All Star blew up because of Shrek but Walkin’ put them on the map.
Roger Morrissette
Better Man was by far the biggest hit on Vitalogy… A little more meaningful than fucking Smash Mouth.
Jason Greenhouse
Smash Mouth’s best song over PJ’s 6th or 7th best. Sorry, Rog. I’m just as big of a PJ guy as you
Roger Morrissette
We should have dumped All Apologies by the same rationale
JT Rozzero
Walkin’ hit #2 on the Top 40…Better Man peaked at 13…
Roger Morrissette
Let’s just give the tournament to Britney right now then!
JT Rozzero
Just giving some numbers to back me up. No need to get surly!
Roger Morrissette
I’m done fighting… A vote is a vote. I can’t wait to take a giant dump on Hootie later.
Jason Greenhouse
Not bigger than the turd I’ll be dropping on Green Day!
Roger Morrissette
This wouldn’t be fun if we agreed on everything!
Andrew Flanagan
This is fun?
JT Rozzero
OUR VOTES: Smells Like Teen Spirit, Linger, Creep, C.R.E.A.M., Walkin On the Sun
Roger Morrissette
“Four songs that are worse than Better Man…and CREAM”
JT Rozzero
Get ready to argue some more Roger, because PM Dawn returns for Group H! I hate seeing Uncle L in the basement here.
Andrew Flanagan
That pains me … same with Puffy.
JT Rozzero
Looks like he can be held down…
Andrew Flanagan
The only winner I would take issue with is Don’t Cry, but I’ll defer to the GnR fans on whether that belongs.
JT Rozzero
Yeah, do both need to move on there?
Roger Morrissette
I would keep the five that won. Don’t Cry is an awesome song and great video.
Jason Greenhouse
I’m with Roger here. Don’t Cry is the swan song of the original GNR. The top five stays the same for me as well.
Roger Morrissette
GnR was huge at this time and these songs were both big hits. If I bounced anything it would be Lisa Loeb for PM Dawn.
JT Rozzero
Loeb’s video alone has her move on, that was a famous one…Everyone knew it.
Roger Morrissette
I agree…Tough draw for the Bliss Boys.
JT Rozzero
OUR PICKS: Don’t Cry, November Rain, Self Esteem, Stay, I’m Too Sexy
JT Rozzero
OK Group I… I hate U2, so I vote to replace them with Stayin’ Alive or Victory! Rest can stay.
Jason Greenhouse
YES! My thoughts exactly! Case closed!
Andrew Flanagan
No love for Batman Forever?
Roger Morrissette
Slow down there Cowboys… I’m having trouble downloading this one… It sounds like some rash decisions are being made.
JT Rozzero
I will never, ever vote for U2. The rest of you can sort it out.
Jason Greenhouse
80s U2 – Yes
90s U2- No
JT Rozzero
No U2 – Yes
Roger Morrissette
One is a pretty great song… This one not so much. I say bump U2 for Roots. You could also talk me into Victory over Will Smith.
JT Rozzero
I will defer to the group on Roots. I think Will stays. That was a big deal and it was made even bigger by Dr. Evil.
Roger Morrissette
It’s only like his 3rd best song – by the Pearl Jam corollary it has to go!
Andrew Flanagan
I’m good with Sepultura over U2.
Roger Morrissette
Yes Andy!
Jason Greenhouse
Seputura or N-Trance?
JT Rozzero
I love Stayin’ Alive but not enough to watch Roger cry over it for the next 50 groups.
OUR PICKS: Sad But True, Whoomp There It Is, Come Down, Roots Bloody Roots and Just the Two of Us
Roger Morrissette
That takes away some of the sting, JR. The squeaky wheel got the grease on that one!
JT Rozzero
I am good with Group J as is. I like Only God Knows Why but probably not enough to bump one of the top five. Thoughts?
Jason Greenhouse
I would bump Len for Wu-Tang here. Wu’s best song!
Andrew Flanagan
Social D over Fastball, or I die a little inside.
JT Rozzero
I can’t take out Len.
Jason Greenhouse
Did we advance CREAM earlier?
JT Rozzero
Yes, CREAM moved on.
Jason Greenhouse
Since CREAM advanced, I’m good with Len staying. It’s a guilty pleasure of mine.
Roger Morrissette
I think Janet Jackson is getting boned here (figuratively). That was a bigger hit than any song on the list. I would replace Spiderwebs with Again and Fastball with Social D to keep Andy engaged.
JT Rozzero
I can’t let Spiderwebs go. My favorite No Doubt song and it got the most votes!
Roger Morrissette
I have no stats to back up my assertion so you may want to fact check me JR.
JT Rozzero
Typical.
Roger Morrissette
I lived it… That Rolling Stone cover… Greeny knows what I’m talking about.
JT Rozzero
I am not saying Again can’t advance.
Jason Greenhouse
Haha! Well played, Cowboy!
Roger Morrissette
Again # 1 for two weeks. Spiderwebs peaked at # 5. Ouch.
Roger Morrissette
Andy and Greeny… You guys good with Again?
JT Rozzero
Still peaked eight spots higher than Better Man.
Roger Morrissette
It’s a different group JR… Let’s just stay in the present.
Jason Greenhouse
I can live with that. Janet does look amazing in that video.
Andrew Flanagan
I’m with JR on Spiderwebs … Janet in for Fastball?
JT Rozzero
My man! I am on board with that.
Roger Morrissette
I’m good with that too
Jason Greenhouse
In!
Andrew Flanagan
Poor Social D…
JT Rozzero
OUR PICKS: Spiderwebs, Natural Born Killaz, Steal My Sunshine, Again, Doin’ It
Roger Morrissette
I feel like we’re in Survivor. Greeny I’ll share my fish with you for votes in the next three rounds.
Jason Greenhouse
As long as it’s Survivor and not Naked and Afraid.
Roger Morrissette
Lol!
