From the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, MI
Your hosts are Vic Joseph and Nigel McGuinness
We get a video package from last night on RAW when Kalisto defeated Enzo Amore for the Cruiserweight Championship in a Lumberjack Match.
Also, I believe we have a new opening video montage for the show.
Renee Young is in the ring and brings out Kalisto to start the show. Kalisto is proud of the fact that for the first time a Luchador is a champion on 205 Live. He then brings up winning the title on Eddie Guerrero’s birthday as the crowd chants for Eddie. Kalisto then promises to bring honor to the title unlike Enzo but that has Enzo himself come out with Ariya Daivari to interrupt. Enzo talks about being the star of the show and it doesnt matter that Kalisto is the champion. Enzo says that Kalisto cannot carry the load using a backpack analogy before bragging that he has main evented RAW for three weeks ago while the rest of the “loserweights” are enjoying the fruits of his labor they decided to screw them over last night. Enzo blames Mustafa Ali for costing him the title last night and said that Kalisto lied, cheated, and stole to win the belt. Kalisto calls out Enzo for being a hypocrite as he said in the past that a “win is a win” then holds up the belt to say he won while Enzo lost. Enzo says he has never seen the title look so disgusting as it does right now because he gave it class. Enzo then says he has “mucho dinero” while the only green Kalisto has is “guacamole” then vows to reclaim the title at TLC. Daivari runs in as Kalisto beats on him but Enzo runs in as the champ is outnumbered. Ali then runs out for the save and clears the ring. The segment was fine as Enzo carried things on the mic and he really had to as while I like Kalisto in the ring he is not good at all on the mic.
2/3 Falls Match:Rich Swann vs. TJP
Before the match, Swann cuts a promo on TJP about this match costing them their friendship and there will be no more hugs or handshakes again. Swann flies out with a somersault plancha before TJP even gets into the ring TJP fights back and tosses Swann inside as the bell finally rings. TJP beats on Swann in the corner and kicks him outside. Swann gets his faced smashed off of the announcers table before getting torpedoed into the post. Back inside, TJP goes for the knee bar but Swann escapes and turns that into a bridging rollup for the first fall (1:07). TJP can’t believe what happened then goes back to beating on Swann as the announcers tell us that Kalisto & Ali will face Daivari & Enzo tonight. TJP stomps the arm then catches Swann with a dropkick after a fast-paced Irish whip sequence. TJP taunts the crowd and that allows Swann to hit a dropkick. TJP comes back with a springboard forearm smash that gets two then he goes to a chinlock. Swann escapes and tries to slingshot in with a sunset flip but TJP holds on to the ropes then switches to a cloverleaf as Swann screams in pain but is able to reach the rope. TJP whips Swann into the corner then have a spot where TJP reverses a Tiger Bomb in midiar. Swann comes back with a roundhouse kick then hits a Tiger Bomb for a nearfall. Swann takes TJP off of the top with a hurricarana but TJP got his knees up on a rolling frog splash and gets two. Both men are down after a double clothesline then get up and trade strikes until TJP hits Swann with a wrecking ball dropkick on the knee. TJP takes his time then springboards in but is drilled with a roundhouse kick as that gets two. Swann slowly climbs up top but TJP cut him off and appears to be going for the Detonation Kick but drops him and locks on the knee bar. Swann slowly crawls towards the ropes and makes it as TJP is frustrated. TJP gets two with a rollup then Swann hits a Michinoku Driver then hits a handspring into a 450 splash then heads up top for the Phoenix Splash and the win (11:47) ***3/4.
Thoughts: One of the best matches on 205 Live in quite some time. They got the crowd into this a bit as everything they did in the ring was clicking and both men looked great. This is likely the end of their feud and I have no idea what you do with them next but this is a match worth seeking out.
Enzo and Daivari are backstage. Enzo says both guys are dirtbags but they have them in the bag for this match and that Mustafa will learn about the circle of life. Drew Gulak interrupts to say he found Enzo sticking to his beliefs to be commendable and does not care for someone who flies around the ring and endorses chants as a champion. And while saying he has differences with Enzo, especially being called “Captain Underpants,” but is “woke” and knows one man makes a difference and will do so tonight against Akira Tozawa. Gulak leaves as Enzo wants to know what just happened. We now have another 205 Live performer who is starting to come around on Enzo and with Survivor Series a little over one month away it seems like we will get a cruiserweight 5 vs. 5 match.
Tozawa comes out for his match against Gulak but gets attacked from behind. Gulak shoves Tozawa into the video board then clotheslines him with his sign in the throat before leaving as Tozawa struggles to breath on the ramp. Good beatdown by Gulak as this feud is amping up.
We get a clip from last week when Cedric Alexander destroyed both Brian Kendrick and Jack Gallagher. Next, Dasha Fuentes is with Cedric backstage and asks him about what happened. Cedric is sick of Kendrick telling him he does not have any edge to him and despite the fact he does not break the rules or stab his friends in the back he is not afraid to get his hands dirty. Cedric also says he will be ready for whatever plan they have next.
Enzo & Daivari come out for their match. Enzo calls his opponents “schmucks” and promises to bust Ali’s nose before calling them both soft.
Mustafa Ali & Kalisto vs. Enzo Amore & Ariya Daivari
Ali eludes his opponents to start but gets distracted by Daivari as Enzo hammers away. Ali fights back and hits a dropkick but is booted off the apron by Daivari when setting up for his rolling neckbreaker. Kalisto breaks up a pinfall then jaws at Enzo for a bit as Ali is in trouble. Enzo cheap shots Kalisto as Ali is being neutralized in the corner. Daivari works a waistlock then catches Ali in a spinebuster for a two count. Enzo tags back inside but Ali catches him with a spinning heel kick as both men are down. Kalisto gets a mild “Lucha” chant started then Ali makes the tag. Kalisto runs wild on Daivari then tosses Enzo outside before Ali gets up and they hit stereo dives. Enzo tosses Ali into the post but back inside, Kalisto turns a hammerlock lariat attempt into the Salida del Sol for the win (6:55) *3/4.
Thoughts: Not much of a match but Kalisto needed the win clean after last night. After the match, Enzo blamed Daivari for the loss.
Final Thoughts: We had an awesome match and some storyline development, making this a good show. I think we are going to get a traditional Survivor Series match between the Cruiserweights and its nice to see them incorporate more of the division into the show.
