Welcome to the Wednesday Walk Around the Web, where we weave & wind through weblinks weekly. Hopefully you will find the links on offer amusing, interesting, or, occasionally, profound. Views expressed in the Wednesday Walk do not necessarily reflect those of anyone but the writer.
- For amazing wood art, check out Chris Isner’s ayahuasca-inspired work.
- Skip Bayless finally has a debate partner worthy of his talents: himself.
- I love the idea of using old artwork as fodder for coloring books. Print some out for your kids and introduce them to classic line-drawings today, or use them as an adult for some calm-down time.
- You know, some of my best friends are heteros, and so I’m proud to stand as an ally on this and every other Heterosexual Pride Day.
- This Week in Covers: The Muppet Show theme to the tune of “Mad World” pretty much captures my transition from child to angsty teen back in the day.
- This Week in One Person Making a Difference: Google Maps captures all sorts of things while charting the globe. (Warning: unsettling body horror-ish visions)
- Friend of the Walk Alex Stabelfeldt Wille brings news of a gender-neutral kids’ clothing line coming to Target — a store that, in a few ways, seems to do better at not being terrible about gendered thinking than other large evil corporations. Like, why should little girls, boys, or kids who’re neither necessarily have different shirts or pants or backpacks? Consider how ridiculous it really is to look at the shape of a baby’s genitals and think that determines what they wear for the rest of their lives.
- PTBN’s very own Brad Hindscrooge brings news of a ZX Spectrum program that Radiohead hid on a cassette rerelease of OK Computer. More info here.
- If you’ve followed the Wednesday Walk you’ve seen the video of a helicopter’s blades synced to the camera’s framerate, so it looks like it’s just spontaneously lifting into the air. Now get a load of a camera’s framerate synced to a bird’s wings.
- Most raw scientific research from the 1990s is missing. Building and maintaining archives of these things includes updating storage media; I’m pretty sure this is one reason why library science is a whole discipline.
- I could go for the new NBA uniforms.
- There’s no inherent sanctity in the shape of a person’s body. strap on an extra prosthetic thumb if you want one. Live your life.
- This Week in Animal Photos: The UPS Dogs Facebook page collects the puppers and puppos that delivery specialists encounter on their journeys.
