To celebrate Ring of Honor’s 15th anniversary, Place to Be Nation and Voices of Wrestling teamed up to present The Honor Roll: ROH’s 50 Greatest Wrestlers Ever and an offshoot poll ROH’s 10 Greatest Non-Wrestlers. We started the nomination process back in June, 2016, with discussion carrying through into the open voting period of this past February. We received 111 ballots for the ROH’s 50 Greatest Ever poll, and 42 ballots for the Non-Wrestler poll.
Criteria for the Top 50
There were no set criteria for the balloting or nominations. There were no minimum match requirements or time served in the promotion. Voters used their own criteria to weigh the merits of each performer. 166 different wrestlers and performers received votes. As part of the polling we asked voters to share when they started following the product. Here are the results for the Top 50 poll:
Early years (2002-2003) – 42
Golden years (2004-2008) – 45
HDNet era (2009-2010) – 8
SBG era (2011-present) – 16
The scoring here had the top 10 weighted, with the remaining 40 working backwards as such: 50th place = 1 point, 49th place = 2, etc. The top 10 weighting was as follows:
1st – 65 points
2nd – 60 points
3rd – 57 points
4th – 54 points
5th – 51 points
6th – 49 points
7th – 47 points
8th – 45 points
9th – 43 points
10th – 41 points
(11 = 40, etc, etc)
In the results you’ll see the total number of points, the high vote, plus the number of ballots the performer appeared on.
For Part 3 of our reveal, we count down from 50 to 26. We’ve added a new counter – the number of top 20 votes each wrestler received. Find more from The Honor Roll project: Part 2 (100-51), Part 1 (166-101), Top Ten Non-Wrestlers.
