WWE Main Event
July 8th, 2014
Announcers: Tom Philips & Byron Saxton

*Sheamus comes out to start with a promo. Ugh. He’s Irish and will fight Del Rio fella. Outcomes Del Rio and says Sheamus has had too many cervezas. Ugh. These two should have good chemistry at least since they wrestled about 400 times in 2012.

*UNITED STATES TITLE LAST MAN STANDING MATCH: (C) Sheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio

Match immediately spills to the outside and they throw each other into the barricade and posts for some quick counts. Sheamus hits a rolling senton on the floor, but Del Rio gets a kendo stick from under the ring and works him over with the stick as we go to a COMMERCIAL BREAK. We come back and Del Rio is still in control with the kendo stick and really beating the Hell out of Sheamus. Del Rio just starts jabbing Sheamus in the chest with the stick and Sheamus gets up at 6. Del Rio tries coming off the top, but Sheamus hits a forearm and fights back. Del Rio runs into the Irish Curse for 7. Sheamus gets the Kendo stick and tees off on Del Rio’s back. Sheamus goes for White Noise, but Del Rio hits a DDT. Sheamus grabs Del Rio and hits him 20 times with the shots of the belfry and then pushes him off into the table. Del Rio is up at 9 and we go to another COMMERCIAL BREAK. We come back and Sheamus hits a side suplex and goes for a chair, but Del Rio cuts him off with a Kendo stick. Del Rio hits a knee lift to take control. Del Rio grabs a chair and swings, but Sheamus blocks and hits a slam. Sheamus goes for the Brogue Kick, but Del Rio moves and hits a backstabber for 7. Del Rio goes for the seated superkick, but Sheamus ducks and hits White Noise. Sheamus’s back is all red and bruised up. Sheamus goes under the ring and grabs a table. Del Rio hits the step-up enziguri for an 8 count. Del Rio goes for the arm-breaker but Sheamus pushes him off, but is then run into a chair set up in the corner. Del Rio again locks in the armbreaker, which does nothing in a match like this. Sheamus stands up and powerbombs Del Rio through the table. Sheamus is up at 8 and Del Rio gets up at 9. Sheamus then immediately hits the Brogue Kick. Del Rio tries using the ropes to pull himself up but falls back down at 9 and Sheamus gets the win. Really good intense match, but the powerbomb through the table should have ended it. 1 for

*Review of Miz and Jericho’s return from two weeks ago. I do love the Miz saying “I’m the Marine dammit.” I like to picture Cena and Ted DiBiase thinking “so are we.” We then see the Wyatts attacking Jericho. We see the graphic setting this match up for Battleground. Cool graphics as it shows their vital information including age, and apparently Jericho is 43. Wow. Jericho is in the back with Renee and Jericho calls Wyatt a spider and saying he will step on the spider. Good serious promo from Jericho which is needed for Wyatt.

*Raw Recap with Raw ending the same way it did last week.

*Nikki Bella vs. Natalya, Eva Marie, Cameron, Naomi, Rosa Mendes, & Summer Rae

Tom Phillips thinks this match was made by Stephanie McMahon. Aren’t all the matches made by Stephanie and Triple H? Oh Cameron isn’t there. Summer and Rosa team against Nikki and tag in Eva Marie. And Eva hits a clothesline, possibly marking the only offensive move she ever hit in the ring. Nikki’s great selling is in effect as she says “ow” when slammed. Nikki gets a few clotheslines and goes for her torture rack on Summer and Rosa comes in and all three fall down. Okay then. Nikki tosses Rosa and Eva then tags in and DDTs Nikki for the win. Natalya and Naomi comfort Nikki after the loss, but Cameron comes in and pushes Natalya then runs off as Naomi chases her. The heels celebrate and apparently Eva and Summer are buddies again and apparently, Eva is a heel again. Funny I thought you had to appear on TV to turn allegiances. 1 for 2

*Chris Jericho is out for a Highlight Reel with Bret Hart. Bret reminisces about the old days in the Dungeon, and Jericho tapping out to Bret’s sister. Bret never was the most electric talker and he certainly hasn’t improved over the years. I’m glad he’s in better health than he has been, but he’s really not meant for long form promos anymore. Jericho asks about Bret’s greatest rivals and Bret mentions Perfect, Owen, Austin, Undertaker and Shawn Michaels. HBK’s music hits and out comes…Damien Sandow in camo vest, boots, jeans and cowboy hat. Sandow actually does a pretty good impression of HBK. Jericho says “Shawn” has let himself go and gotten fat. Some of the fans chant you screwed Bret. “Shawn” says it’s a shame Jericho hasn’t paid his electric bill for his jacket. Sandow threatens to send Bret back to WCW, back to Ted Turner, but Bret knocks down Sandow and locks in the Sharpshooter. Jericho tells the ring announcer to ring the bell. Phillips says it’s like déjà vu. I don’t think he has a good grasp of WWE history. An entertaining little segment, if not a little too long trying to push the network. 2 for 3

Final Thoughts: Really good brawl between Sheamus and Del Rio and an okay little legend segment to close out the show. And if you didn’t know you can only find WWE Main Event on the WWE Network. They mentioned that quite a few times tonight.
