PTBN Campus Hot Takes #6

Welcome back college football fans! Scott here flying solo as Logan is hanging out with Mickey, R2D2 and the rest of Orlando’s residents. So since it’s just me I’ll switch things up a bit and go over what happened this past weekend in the Big 5 conferences and the academies. I’ll actually pass on mentioning Notre Dame, who pummeled Bowling Green 52-0. This week things get amped up in South Bend when they host annual rival USC. So let’s dive into the Big 5 conferences and see if the Clemson can get back #1 from Alabama!

ACC Roundup:

Quiet week in the conference with Clemson and Virginia on byes…a lot of points in the conference as Louisville beat BC 41-39 and Virginia Tech dropped Miami 42-35…Sam Howell threw for 376 yards at 4 TD as North Carolina rebounded from the Clemson heartbreak with a 38-22 win over Georgia Tech…Pitt ups its record to 4-2 with a 33-30 win over Duke as Kenny Pickett threw 3 TD. Virginia plays Friday night this week against Miami, while the defending champion Tigers are home to Florida State. Quietly Wake Forest is 5-0, they go for 6-0 Saturday against Louisville.

Big 12 Roundup:

Oklahoma & Texas prepare for the Red River Shootout this weekend with big wins…the Sooners beat Kansas 45-20 behind 4 Jalen Hurts TD passes, while Texas beat West Virginia 42-31 in Morgantown..Oklahoma State was upset at Lubbock by Texas Tech 45-35 behind 424 yards and 4 TD from Jett Duffey…Baylor is now 5-0 after a 31-12 win at Kansas State..besides OU-Texas, we have a big game in Waco as the aforementioned Bears of Baylor take on upset-minded Texas Tech.

Big Ten Roundup:

No one is looking better than Ohio State right now, after an impressive 34-10 win over Michigan State. JK Dobbins rushed for 172 yards in the victory…Michigan won a 10-3 fistfight over Iowa to try and get some mojo back…Minnesota still undefeated after a 40-17 win over Illinois with Rodney Smith rushing for 211 yards…the big game in conference this week is in Iowa City where the Hawkeyes look to rebound in Happy Valley against Penn State; Wisconsin looks to stay unbeaten after an easy win this week over Kent State as they host Michigan State Saturday;

Pac-12 Roundup:

Who’s actually in control in this conference? Yet another year where everybody is milk-toasty and average. Maybe Oregon after a 17-7 win over Cal puts them at 4-1…maybe Arizona, also 4-1 after a 35-30 win over Colorado as Khalil Tate threw for 404 yards at 3 TD…Washington came out flat and lost 23-13 at Stanford…is this another year where a Pac-12 team misses the playoff? The only real game of note this week (besides ND-USC) is Washington in Tucson against Arizona.

SEC Roundup:
Now unlike the Pac-12, there’s like 5 teams in the SEC that could make the Playoff; Georgia and LSU keep trucking along with big wins, Dawgs beat Tennessee 42-13, while LSU crushed Utah State 42-6…the best game was in the Swamp, where Florida may have gotten into the picture with a 24-13 win over Auburn…the big game is in Death Valley, where Florida heads into Baton Rouge to face LSU…meanwhile #1 Alabama is in College Station to face Texas A&M.

Academies Roundup:

Army lost a shootout at home 42-33 to Tulane to fall to 3-2, they’re at Western Kentucky this week…Navy has an inside track to the CID trophy after a 34-25 win over Air Force, this week the Middies are at Tulsa, while the Falcons are home to Fresno State

The first CFP rankings are coming in a couple of weeks, then we will start to get an idea of what the landscape is. Here’s this weekend’s biggest games:
