Goodbye Tucker Carlson!

Tucker Carlson and FOX NEWS “agreed to part ways” on April 21, 2023. Tucker was a host for the network since 2016 and was the highest rated cable news program for the 8pm weekday hour.
Fox News Tonight with Brian Kilmeade took his place for that hour and still managed to win the time slot, once again. Although the network did lose about a million viewers, their 2.6 million loyal fans were enough to beat out the competition.
Joe Scarborough Presents on MSNBC had 1.5 million, and Anderson Cooper at CNN had a low 728,000 viewers. Makes you wonder why they even pick the guy to do the New Years Eve thing.
Where did all those viewers go then? If not to MSNBC and CNN, then where? Newsmax. It seems when FOX is not to their liking, this crowd will jump there. Newsmax tripled their audience since Tucker left – going from 145,000 viewers to 540,000 viewers for Monday at 8pm. So it seems that audience will never shift sides, just find another hole to crawl through.
Will Tucker go to Newsmax? That’s what seems to make the most sense here. They seem to have the same audience and same opinions.
Tucker’s show regularly drew over 3 million viewers every night. As you can see from above, that is far and away the biggest audience for a nightly cable news program. Poor Anderson Cooper can’t even reach one million.
Tucker is now the only show host to be fired from 3 major news cable networks, MSNBC, FOX and CNN. So I doubt he will return to one of those. Most likely Newsmax makes the most sense for him. It’s his demographic, it’s his kind of viewers and they could really need the help.
Carlson and FOX parted ways after the huge settlement FOX had with Dominion, the voting machine company whom the network slandered on the air many times. Now did the settlement have anything to do with the departure? Well no one knows for sure – but there are more lawsuits on the horizon and perhaps firing Tucker would help lessen the blows of those settlements. After all, they can always bring him back. He wasn’t banned or anything, just fired.
We shall see. Any thoughts on the matter? Email me and I’ll post it here. See ya next Thursday!
